Four…

Four: Truly, Madly, Deeply

Warning: this chapter contains adult-oriented content and disturbing situations. Seriously.

As for the religious references, I’m not trying to defile Christianity in any way, lol. It’s just a story, with viewpoints of a very confused character (Aubrey), who is only looking for something to ‘believe’ in.

Edit: hmmm… with all the views this one is getting already (40++) methinks some are re-reading it. I wonder why? *cough- the sex, cough-cough*

“Aubrey, can you tell me what happened the week of August 18th? After you first saw the… angel?” Dr. Paulison asked.

Images of August 17th faded into darkness, leaving nothing but a tiny distant light. Then Aubrey remembered the following events.

Her shift at the diner ended early. Since the co-worker from hell had been killed, Aubrey’s job was more bearable.

When she found out about Daniela’s murder, Aubrey couldn’t fathom it. Whomever had done it, still hadn’t been caught. There were no fingerprints, no other evidence. It was as though a phantom had taken her life.

Furthermore, samples had been taken of the saliva found on Daniela’s neck. The saliva was proven not to be human, nor any animal they knew of.

Go figure.

Aubrey halted, staring at the beast in front of her.

Fog swirled around it. Aubrey’s heart rate quickened.

WTF? A wolf in Sunset Valley?

For a moment, she wondered if maybe that was the creature who attacked Daniela.

The wolf stared back at her, his countenance menacing. Then it threw its head back and howled.

It loped off, vanishing in the mist.

Long after returning home, Aubrey stepped out onto the balcony.

She was upset because it was nearing three ‘o clock in the morning, and her ‘angel’ hadn’t showed.

Of course, who said he was going to return? He certainly hadn’t. Maybe it was just a one-time deal.

Aubrey sighed. Her longing for him couldn’t be put into words, but was as tangible as the rushing ocean surf.

Then she devised a plan…

A knife clenched in one hand, Aubrey prepared to cut herself… again. Maybe she could make him feel sorry for her again, maybe it was the only way to summon him.

Aubrey knew she was crazy for doing it, but… just… couldn’t… help… herself.

She needed to see him so badly.

But it didn’t work. He never came. And the next day, he never came; nor the next, or the next, or the next.

Aubrey began cutting herself on non-visible places, such as her upper thighs and stomach. No cut was deep, just barely enough to bleed. Either way, she didn’t need people to start asking questions.

Finally, on the seventh day, she prayed again. A scant amount of blood trickled down her stomach.

Aubrey collapsed into bed, hoping this seventh night would be her lucky night.

It was, but not in the way she’d planned.

Vaclav slipped through the door and onto Aubrey’s bed. He rose above her.

“Stop fucking cutting yourself!” he raged, hovering above her in a threatening stance as though unsure whether to attack.

Aubrey glimpsed him and screamed.

Her screams were cut off by his hand. Then he pulled her over and pounced on top, slamming his hands against the wall.

“Don’t scream,” he ordered. “I won’t hurt you!”

“O—okay,” she said. The anxiety that squeezed her heart lessened its grip; slightly.

He leapt from the bed. “Get up,” he said.

Aubrey swung her legs over the side. Then Vaclav thrust one arm around her and backed her against the wall.

“Do you have any idea how lucky you are just to be alive?” he said, his voice a hushed whisper. “Stop the cutting.”

Aubrey gazed at him, completely smitten. It was as though she’d lost her mind. Actually, she knew she’d lost her mind… a long time ago.

“Okay, I’ll stop,” she said. I’d do anything for you.

Vaclav withdrew, and rushed toward the patio doors.

“Wait. Please don’t go,” she pleaded.

He paused as she caught up with him.

“Please,” she said touching his back and shoulder. “Spend the night with me.”

He spun around. “Aubrey, I lied to you,” he said.

He grasped her hand.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“You know what I mean. I’m not an angel.”

“Yes. Yes you are an angel. You healed me and everything, that’s not something just anyone could do. That was a miracle!”

“No, it wasn’t a miracle. I’m able to do that because my powers have evolved over the last few hundred years,” he explained. “I watched you pray in your bedroom, then watched you cut yourself. I know you asked for an angel.”

“I’m not who, or what you think I am.”

His hand slipped from hers.

Aubrey stared at him, disbelieving he was anything but an angel; her savior.  She thought of the wounds on her belly, and how they stung.

Aubrey removed the wrap from her hair, and then slipped off her nightshirt.

…exposing her cuts.

“What are you doing?” he asked, his eyes darting between her face and her body.

“I want you to heal these cuts,” she said. “They—they hurt.”

He gazed at her, obviously unsure of what to do.

But then he knelt down…

Vaclav brushed his lips around the area, and slid his tongue across the wounds.

It was different from what he did the last time. This time it seemed like… he was savoring her or something. But then he attached his lips to her skin and gently sucked the blood. It kinda tickled, but there were other things she felt…

As he continued to knead her stomach with his mouth, Aubrey stifled feelings of desire. It was like trying to hold back a flood by using a toothpick as a barrier.

He stood up and said, “I really have to leave now. It’s almost dawn.”

“Not for another couple hours,” she said.

Aubrey looked down and watched as the skin grew over the wounds, leaving two faint lines.

Of course you’re an angel, she thought. I’ll never believe otherwise.

“Will you at least stay with me until I fall asleep? I feel safer with you here,” she said.

“What are you afraid of?” he asked.

“Everything; including myself.”

“Are you afraid of vampires?” he asked.

It was the oddest question ever. Why the hell would he ask that? she wondered.

“I don’t know what you mean. Just—please stay with me a while longer,” she said.

Aubrey gazed at him, her eyes beseeching.

He joined her on the bed. Afterward, Aubrey began to doze off. A cloak of serenity enveloped her, just knowing he was there…

Then she awakened. Fingertips, like small cubes of ice, brushed against her thigh.

Her eyes opened.

Vaclav jerked away, as though he’d touched a flame.

In that moment, his eyes looked creepy; and for the first time, he didn’t look like an angel.

Gradually, his hand migrated back to her. His fingers caressed her flesh, his eyes penetrating like knives.

Why are you doing that? she wanted to ask, but the words lay trapped in her throat, like that lump of excitement she felt.

He rose up.

Then braced himself on one arm as he mounted her.

Aubrey stared up at him, wondering when she’d wake up from the fabulous dream, wondering when her angelic prince would vanish upon that awakening.

Instead of vanishing, he drew near…

until his lips touched hers. Only for a second, he withdrew as though wondering what the hell he was doing. But he quickly recovered…

as he dipped down to kiss her with a vengeance, trailing quick kisses all over her jaw and down to her neck.

Aubrey gasped in pleasure. His scent was reminiscent of lavender, delicious like the taste of his lips. His tongue glided into her mouth, colliding with her own. Faintly, she tasted blood as her tongue scraped across his teeth. His very… sharp teeth. It didn’t matter, for there was no going back now.

Vaclav pulled down his slacks, and Aubrey looked away. She closed her eyes and he removed her underwear. He removed everything as though in slow motion, nothing seemed urgent.

Yet, everything was happening too fast…

Then another fleeting thought occurred to her: Am I a horrible sinner for doing this?

That thought was soon lost, however…

…along with Aubrey’s virginity.

Of course, it hurt quite a bit.

She stared at the full moon beyond the doors, distracting herself from the pain.

A few minutes passed, and it wasn’t so bad.

Aubrey gazed up at him, seeing the pleasure on his face. His skin, his mouth, his entire body was cold. She stifled a chill. But when he kissed her, all that coldness disappeared and was replaced by a heightened warmth; a warmth within her own body.

As the minutes elapsed, his movements seemed to cause a strange eruption in her body. She grasped the bed sheet, nearly pulling it off. She’d never felt anything like it.

Vaclav continued making love to her.

“I… love… you… Vaclav,” Aubrey moaned.

He said nothing.

When morning came, Aubrey found herself alone.

Vaclav was gone.

She stumbled into the bathroom, eyeing herself in the mirror.

Two rose-colored hickeys marred her neck. But what was strange, were the tiny bite marks mingled with the discoloration. In the heat of the moment, she remembered him sucking her neck but not biting her. Maybe she was feeling too good to notice?

‘Are you afraid of vampires?‘ Vaclav had asked, his handsome voice echoing in her conscience. Aubrey ignored that voice, choosing to believe in a more divine explanation… although she knew angels weren’t known for biting; nor having sex.

And then five weeks later, she found out about the pregnancy.

As the nurse did the ultrasound, a storm of thoughts passed through Aubrey’s mind.

I know there are so many parents who think their child is an amazing, special creation. But this child, this child is truly different. This baby will be the most special, most amazing child of all… I know it deeply in my heart. For this child is the spawn of an angel; a celestial being from heaven above.

I know it… I know it…
