One Hundred and Three: Family Affair

Reznik stayed in Leesburg for three more days. Lauren still had her suspicions that he was screwing around.

Not that Lauren was any better, as evidenced by her affair with Vaclav. Yet she justified that affair, citing reasons such as: Reznik no longer loves me. I no longer love Reznik. Reznik has ignored me for a year, so it’s no wonder I found romance with Vaclav. And you can’t help who you fall in love with. It’s not a choice.

All the children were home. Cody went to bed an hour earlier, while Azura and Louis played with their new dollhouse.

“Daddy,” Louis said.

“Daddy,” Azura mocked, then chewed on her doll’s head until it popped off.

If that doll were a vampire, it’d die, Lauren mused.

Her lover held her from behind. She felt so safe in his embrace, everything seemed right in the world as long as he was close.

Reznik had no idea she didn’t love him anymore. That was the only thing she felt guilty over.

She knew Vaclav felt guilty. She could see it in his eyes.

“I’m going to despise telling my son about us,” Vaclav said.

“Yeah. I know. I don’t want to hurt him. I don’t think he really loves me anymore, though.”

“I think he still does, Lauren.”

“How do you know?”

“It’s just a feeling.”

Reznik doesn’t act like he still loves me. But I know you do, Vaclav. You’re so attentive and caring.

I’ve never felt so wanted in my life.

Lauren squirmed from Vaclav’s arms and turned to face him.

Slowly, they lowered down to the floor as she straddled his body.

Warm, pleasant sensations flowed through her.

He was so handsome; so good looking. She became lost, drowning in his glowing eyes, filtering out everything else and even the entire world.

“I love you,” he said curving his arm behind her neck. His fingers toyed with her hair, pulled it back.

She smiled.

Vaclav nudged her down to his lips.

Their kissing intensified as the minutes passed.

Her heart hammered and breathing quickened.

“Ah, baby...” Vaclav’s hips bucked, lifted her up and down.

He rushed to her neck and nipped it, growing hard below. Before long his hard-on was huge and nearly busting out of his slacks.

“I want you.” He groped her upper thigh, squeezing almost until it hurt. Groaning and grinding, he sucked on her neck.

Oh… I want you too,” she sighed as she moved her body with his. He was so rigid, his dick pressed up to her as if begging for entry. Only a couple of fabric layers separated them.

They rolled over, so he was now on top. More grinding, kissing, groping, loving.

Lauren tried to catch her breath but couldn’t. A dull, throbbing ache consumed her body.

“Mmm, you’re going to make me cum if you keep this up,” he whispered. “I’ll have to visit the bathroom.”

Jesus. Let’s just go to the bedroom already!

“I want to make love to you,” he said moving faster. “I want to fuck you… nice and hard.”

“What are you guys doing?” a little voice asked. Vaclav and Lauren looked.

“Fuck,” Vaclav said.

“Oh my God…” Panic seized Lauren. “Cody…”

The little boy ran off.

Vaclav and Lauren jumped up. She covered her mouth, shaking her head.

God, I hope Cody doesn’t tell Reznik.

Vaclav spoke to his grandson about what he saw.

“Why did you kiss Lauren? Daddy’s supposed to kiss her. I thought you was hurting her too.”

Vaclav sighed. “I promise I wasn’t hurting Lauren. And I know I’m not supposed to kiss her. I’m sorry you saw that.”

“But you did hurt her. She was crying.”

“You’re too young to understand, Cody.”

“Understand what?”

“I didn’t hurt her. I love Lauren. When you’re an adult and you love someone, sometimes it’s a… special kind of love.” He had no idea what to say next.

“Is that why you kissed her? Because you love her like Daddy does?” He was getting visibly upset.

“Yes. But you cannot tell your father. Leave that to me.”

“Daddy’s going to be mad at you!”

“I know that. Just don’t tell him.” Vaclav stood up.

Dear God. Will the child keep quiet about this? At least long enough for me to get the balls to tell Reznik myself?

“You said the F-word to Lauren,” Cody chimed.

Ultimately, neither Vaclav nor Lauren told Reznik about their relationship. Cody hadn’t mentioned anything either, as if he’d forgotten all about it.

Reznik left an average of four times a week and stayed out all night.

Each time he was out, Lauren used the opportunity to have sex with Vaclav.

Vaclav had awakened something inside her. She was an empty shell before, but now she was a vibrant, living being. She never realized how dead she once felt inside, until Vaclav showed her love.

Her lips, tongue tasted him; her hands stroked his body all over. Lauren wanted to consume him. She couldn’t get enough.

In turn, Vaclav couldn’t get enough of her.

Six weeks after their forbidden relationship began, Lauren called Kat.

She could no longer keep the secret.

Kat answered. Tristan and Justin excitedly squealed and chattered in the background.

“Hi Kat.”

“Hey Lauren. What are you doing?”

“Calling you.”

“I see that.” Kat laughed.

“Um, Kat? There’s something I need to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“I’ve been seeing Vaclav.” Lauren hesitated a moment. “I’m in love with him, and he loves me too. Reznik doesn’t know yet.”

“Huh? You and Dad…”

“Yes.”

“Are you at least going to tell Reznik? He’s my brother! He has a right to know! And I can’t believe Dad is doing this!”

The twins started crying.

“We didn’t mean for this to happen,” Lauren said. “Reznik has ignored me for a whole year. We only had sex twice in that time. Was I just supposed to deal with that? I’m sorry but I couldn’t stand it any more. I needed Vaclav. I needed someone to pay attention to me, to tell me I was doing a good job with the kids. I’ve busted my ass all year taking care of Azura, Lucifer and Cody. Reznik hardly helped, and he certainly didn’t appreciate me for what I was doing. But Vaclav DID.”

“Fine. But you still need to tell my brother.”

“I will. Soon.”

“How long has this been going on?” Kat asked.

“Six weeks or so.”

Kat exhaled, noisily. “Like I said, you need to tell Reznik.”

“I said I will.”

“Okay. Bye.” Kat hung up.

Lauren’s BFF was utterly disgusted with her. It couldn’t be any more obvious.

Nausea sought vengeance upon Lauren’s stomach. She heaved into the toilet. Nothing came up.

“Oh, shit.” She wished she could puke. Then maybe she’d get some relief from the monstrous flu that seemed to be plaguing her.

The following night Lauren headed for Vaclav’s bedroom.

“Vaclav, I have to talk to you.”

He turned and gently put his son down.

He planted a quick kiss on Louis’ head.

“What is it?” He asked.

“I’m pregnant… so we have to tell Reznik. It’s now or never.”

“We’ll tell Reznik when the time is right. Now are you absolutely sure you’re pregnant?”

“Yes I’m sure. I took a test this morning. And the time to tell Reznik is right now!”

“As I said, we’ll tell him when the time’s right. Everything will be fine. And now that you’re pregnant, I’m going to get a vasectomy.” He grinned.

How can you be smiling at a time like this? I’m losing my mind, meanwhile you’re happy over getting your balls clipped?

“Since this baby is a dhampir, it’ll grow faster than a… normal baby. We don’t have much time.”

“I’ll tell Reznik soon. I give you my word, Lauren.”

She nodded, her anxiety lifting. Then curiosity overwhelmed her.

“What made you decide to get fixed?” she asked.

“I’m finished procreating. It’s over. Again, I’m happy you’re pregnant, because now I won’t feel like I’m depriving you of children once I’m clipped.”

“You mean you wanted me to get pregnant? So you could get fixed, and not have to worry about me wanting kids later?”

“I did, but there are other reasons why it’s for the best. If you decide to become immortal later, you’ll never have to worry about getting pregnant or going through what Aubrey did.” He looked down. “I regret not having a vasectomy after turning Aubrey into a vampire. If I had, she never would’ve died.”

“You also wouldn’t have Lucifer. He’s a beautiful, wonderful little boy, Vaclav.”

“If I could’ve chosen between Aubrey and having Lucifer, I’m afraid I would’ve chosen Aubrey. Though I do love you, Aubrey was my infinite, eternal love.”

His words tossed razors into her heart.

Yet, she understood.

She loved him even more for his honesty, and for loving Aubrey so much. Even after her death, he still longed for his eternal love.

Maybe some day he’d grow to love Lauren just as much.

Reznik prepared to read Cody a bedtime story.

What he didn’t know was that his son had an interesting story of his own…

“Guess what? I think Grandpa and Lauren are having a baby. They was talking about it in Grandpa’s bedroom.”

Reznik gaped at his son.

“They also kissed. They kiss a lot. Grandpa told me not to tell you.”

The book tumbled to the floor.
